Institute Receives $10,000 Grant to Fund Distance Education
Pittsburgh, PA July 1, 2019
The Baptist Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania (BPSWPA) awarded a grant of $10,000 to support the Baptist Institute's planned distance learning and reverse classroom strategies. This grant will allow the Institute to install a professional-scale recording and live video studio at its Pittsburgh headquarters. Instructors will be able to record lectures for later viewing or to stream lectures live to remote locations. President Brian Hart and the Board of Directors couldn't be happier at the news. "Our students, like theological students everywhere, are frequently challenged by regular travel across the region for classes," Hart said. "These new strategies will allow us to teach a widely distributed base of students with the same commitment to excellence, participation, and interaction with faculty as they have in regular classroom instruction. We are incredibly grateful to the [Association] for their tremendous support."
While the Baptist Institute is not affiliated with the BPSWPA, the Southern Baptist Convention through the North American Mission Board is actively planting new churches in the Pittsburgh area. BPSWPA anticipates an increasing need for Baptist theological education as the number of churches grows. This project provides an important partnership opportunity. The Baptist Institute welcomes Baptist and like-minded students of any association.
